How does a PW550 5G outdoor router differ from a 4G router?

A PW550 5G router provides significantly faster data speeds, lower latency, and the ability to connect devices simultaneously. It uses advanced technologies such as millimeter-wave frequencies and improved spectrum efficiency.

How do I set up my PW550 Outdoor Router? 

Setting up your PW550 outdoor router involves the following steps:

  1. Insert the SIM card into the router
  2. A wireless broadband data plan must be added to your SIM card for broadband connectivity. The SIM must be provisioned by the carrier. Contact your carrier for details about selecting a data plan and about the process for provisioning your SIM.

  3. Connect the router to a power source.
    Connect the PoE cable (White color) in PW550 and with “Gigabit PoE”.

  4. Connect the LAN cable (Yellow color) with “Gigabit PoE” and with the Computer/Laptop/ TV etc.

  5. Your Computer/Laptop/ TV should be connected to the Internet and solid “Blue” Led light will be ON under your PW550.

Where should I place my PW550 outdoor router for the best performance?

Place your PW550 5G router in an outdoor location, away from obstructions and interference sources such as walls, metal objects, and electronic devices. Ideally, it should be in an outdoor environment to get the best signal reception from the 5G network.

How many different ways can PW550 device connect to the internet?

The PW550 can connect to the Internet via the Ethernet LAN. There is a LAN port on the “Gigabit PoE” that can be used as a LAN connection point.

What speeds can I expect from a PW550 5G outdoor router?

Speeds can vary depending on your location and network coverage. Typically, 5G networks can provide download speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to over 1 Gbps under optimal conditions.

How many devices can connect to a PW550 5G wireless outdoor router simultaneously?

A 5G router can handle one connected devices simultaneously via LAN cable, depending on the model and network capacity. This makes it suitable for homes, offices and outdoor where continuous Internet connection is needed.

Is it possible to connect this device to a PoE switch instead of the PoE injector?

Most PoE switch support IEEE802.3af/802.3at. The PW550 only supports Passive PoE, not IEEE802.3af/802.3at.

If the PoE Switch supports Passive PoE, then you can attempt to see if the PW550 will power on using 24V/1A.

Why is my PW550 5G router not connecting to the internet?

If your PW550 5G router is not connecting to the internet, try the following steps:

  1. Ensure the SIM card is properly inserted and activated. (Please contact SIM card carrier for activation)

  2. Restart the router.

  3. Verify that you have good 5G network coverage in your area.

  4. Contact your service provider for assistance if the issue persists.

How do I improve the signal strength of my PW550 5G outdoor router?

To improve signal strength, try these tips:

  1. Relocate the router to a higher position outside.

  2. Remove any physical obstructions or interference sources near the router.

  3. Ensure your router's firmware is up-to-date.

Why the LED indicator is not ON under PW550?

  1. Confirm the power adapter is plugged properly into the AC socket.  

  2. Confirm the power adapter is connected to the “Gigabit PoE” properly.

  3. Use only the Power Adaptor that is provided and comes packaged with the device.

How do I access Web Based Utility (WebGUI) for PW550?

  1. Ensure that the PW550 is powered on.

  2. Log in to http://192.168.0.1/login.shtml 

  3. Use the default credentials mentioned under the PW550 Router. 

  4. Ensure that your PW550 is connected and has acquired the IP address from the device over Wired connection.

  5. Check with a different web browser or try to reset the browser cache memory.

Is my PW550 5G wireless outdoor router covered under warranty?

Yes, all ATEL products come inclusive of a 1-year warranty. Please ensure your device is registered to reflect an accurate warranty.

  1. Log in to PW550 Web GUI as described in Q11.

  2. Go to Settings > “Remote Upgrade” > Check the Upgrade Status to make sure your PW550 always has the latest firmware version.
